Design Philosophy
Mansard House is a modern day interpretation of the ‘traditional terraced house’, usually low-pitched roofs that are inherent in the United Kingdom housing landscape.
Its building form is enclosed by a folding pitched roof, which creates a more integrated edge with the street compared to the typical more abrupt vertical façade. The orientation of Mansard Houses is responsive to the sunlight path and privacy of neighbouring buildings within a street.
The street side is a fenceless transition from public to private space. An open porch, with optional grilled gate, provides a protective entrance. The porch provides storage and outside area ideal for everyday activities. Large front windows provide natural surveillance. The rear has an option for a ‘bolt-on’ sunroom, much like the traditional conservatory. The adaptable internal layout complies with Lifetime Home requirements.
